5 Things To Know Before Putting On False Eyelashes

Some Sticky Prep

False eyelashes can completely change the look of your makeup, but before a night on the town, you have to strategically wrestle them onto your face. The right fit, a careful application, and a little patience can make them look far more natural while also saving you from irritation later. Before you reach for the adhesive, let’s go through a few tips meant to help you.

1. You May Need to Trim Them

Most strip lashes aren't designed to fit every eye perfectly, so if the band extends beyond your natural lash line, you need to trim a small amount from the outer edge. Just be careful! Cutting off too much at once is hard to undo, so trim gradually.

2. Lash Glue Needs a Moment

Applying a lash immediately after coating the band with adhesive actually makes it slide around instead of staying put. Don’t worry, it’s an easy fix. Just give the glue a short amount of time to become slightly tacky before placing the lash as close to your natural lash line as possible.

3. Clean Lids Help

The reality is that oily eyelids, leftover makeup, or heavy skin care products can make lash adhesive less sticky. Before applying your beloved falsies, make sure the area around your lash line is clean. It should also be reasonably dry.

4. Placement Matters

You don't need to get the lash right on the first try, but you do want the band sitting close to your natural lashes, not floating above them. Tweezers make it easier to place the center first and then secure each corner. Once everything is set, a little eyeliner can help disguise any bits of visible band.

5. Taking Them Off Is Just as Important

Don't yank false lashes off when you're tired of them! Taking them off correctly is just as important as correct application. Loosen the adhesive with an appropriate eye-makeup remover and gently peel the strip away. Careful removal helps protect your natural lashes, too.
