Why Frizz Happens
Frizzy hair can be frustrating to deal with, especially when you're on a time crunch. While there are a bunch of factors you can't control, like humidity, there are a few habits that you can avoid to help your hair look smoother. Here are five things you might not realize are causing your frizzy hair.
1. Washing Your Hair Too Often
Despite what you may think, washing your hair too often actually strips away the natural oils that help keep it soft and smooth. So when your hair becomes too dry, it’s more likely to look frizzy and feel rough. Try spacing out wash days when possible.
2. Using Too Much Heat
Blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons can all contribute to frizz when they’re used too often or at very high temperatures. Always take appropriate care, like using a heat protectant, so that you can keep your hair smooth.
3. Skipping Conditioner
Conditioner is an important step in haircare routines because it helps replace moisture after shampooing, so skipping it can leave hair more prone to frizz. Even if your hair gets oily easily, the ends still need that hydration!
4. Rubbing Hair With A Towel
Given how aggressively you likely do it, rubbing your hair roughly with a towel can create extra fizz when you don't mean to. Wet hair also tends to be more delicate, so doing this can lead to breakage and flyaways.
5. Sleeping On Rough Fabrics
Even your pillowcase can play a part in how smooth or frizzy your hair turns out when you wake up in the morning! Rough fabrics may create friction while you sleep, which leaves your hair looking messy. A smoother pillowcase, made out of silk or soft cottons, can help reduce this.
