5 Essential Tips To Care For Wavy Hair

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let Down Your Hair

It takes a lot to get those waves exactly how you want them. With so much advice out there—and hundreds of tips—it’s hard to know which route works best for you. But don’t worry, we have a few tricks to apply to anyone with curlier strands.

1. Don’t Wash Every Day

It’s tempting to wash your hair every day, but wavy locks actually thrive with infrequent showers. To protect your hair, you want those natural oils to stick around, and that means washing at least once a week.

2. Deep Condition

Everyone’s hair benefits from deep conditioning, but wavy hair really appreciates the gesture. To maintain moisture, aim to condition your hair at least once a week; you can use a mask or a hair oil to get the job done.

3. Use the Right Products

This shampoo says it’s for color-treated hair, but you can still use it…right? Well, the thing is, specific products target specific hair types, and it’s best to grab items made for wavy hair. It’s also important to buy detanglers and anti-frizz products.

4. Dry Properly

Drying your hair looks a little different with waves. Air-drying is always an option, but don’t attack your locks with a towel. Gently scrunch the water from your hair and opt for a microfiber towel; the combo locks in moisture without turning your head into a bird’s nest.

5. Apply Products to Damp Hair

Though some products are fine on dry hair, a lot of them work best with damp hair. You want to hear the squelch when you scrunch your curls; if you can’t, then your hair isn’t damp enough. Applying products to dry hair can result in frizz, breakage, or greasy strands.
