5 Pointless Makeup Tools

Beauty Tools That Are a Waste of Money

Sure, some beauty gadgets might sound innovative and fun to try, but not all of them are worth the money. In fact, there are better—and easier—ways to do your makeup without these gimmicky tools, and you'll still end up with the same glowing result. From eyebrow stencils to lip liners, here are five pointless makeup tools that only take up space in your bag.

1. Eyebrow Stencils

It might sound like having an eyebrow stencil would make filling in your brows easier, but most of the time, you either won't find an exact match or you end up looking like you drew your brows on with a Sharpie. A better bet? Stick to using an angled brush and tinted powder, and go freehand.

2. Heated Eyelash Curlers

Heated eyelash curlers might sound useful for those who have lashes that just won't stay curled, but you're probably better off using waterproof mascara instead. Applying heat to your lashes, if you're not careful, can damage the hairs and burn the delicate area around your eyes, so it's best to stick with a regular (non-heated) curler.

3. Fan Brushes

Fan brushes are said to be used specifically for applying highlighter, but honestly, you'll get a better result using your fingers instead. And even if you're not keen on using your bare hands, other brushes, like an eyebrow brush, could do the trick.

4. Lip Liner

Lip liner might be useful if you're doing a two-toned lip or you don't want the edges to feather, but most of the time, you'll be able to get the same result without all the extra hassle. If you have a pretty steady hand and a defined lip shape, you don't need to line beforehand.

5. Primer

Instead of using a makeup primer to prep your face, hydrate your skin with a good toner, serum, and moisturizer instead. Trust us: your skin will thank you for it. Using makeup primers might only clog your pores and don't do much in readying your base, anyway.
